Ex-MD of GSK joins Sun Pharma

 

S Kalyanasundaram, for'mer managing director of GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals, will join Sun Pharmaceutical Industries, the country's largest drug manu'facturer in terms of market capitalisation, as one of its top three executives.
 
He is currently head, com'mercial excellence, for the Asia-Pacific region of GSK, the world's second largest drug company. Sources said Sun Pharma has not yet finalised the role and designation of his responsibilities, but he will join by April.
 
At present, Sun Pharma's day to day operations are mainly headed by Dilip Shanghvi, chairman and managing director, and Sudhir Valia, whole time director.
 
Kalyanasundaram, known in industry circles as Kal,was appointed GSKs managing di'rector in 2003, succeeding V Thyagarajan. He moved to head the Asia-Pacific region operations for GSK in 2007.
 
A science graduate from Madurai University and a qualified chartered accountant, Kalyanasundaram had joined Wellcome as a commercial advisor in New Zealand in 1988 and took over as its commercial director in 1992. Soon after the inte'gration of Glaxo and Well'come, he was appointed managing director of Glaxo Well'come Singapore. At the time of the international merger of Glaxo Wellcome and SmithK-line Beecham in the year 2000, Kalyanasundaram was ap'pointed as director, pharma-ceuticals, of the Indian operations;
